Quick Overview

The ultimate in Speedplay adjustability is now in a mountain pedal!

Color: Stainless steel

Weight: 312 grams/pr.

Riders looking for a walkable shoe/pedal system have used mountain pedals for two reasons: A small cleat that sits inside the tread of off-road shoes, and double-sided pedals for convenience. But there are a few problems...

Many off-road oriented shoe/pedal systems rely on the shoe's tread to anchor the rider's foot laterally, making stability uneven. Riders prone to tendonitis or other repetitive-motion injuries need the stability offered by a road-oriented shoe/pedal system to relieve that. The tread of an off-road shoe can even interfere with engagement, making any effort at clipping in frustrating. Energy is wasted simply pressing against a soft shoe tread. The "float" needed for some riders to prevent repetitive-motion injuries is almost always a fixed amount in nearly all manufacturers. Speedplay decided to answer all of these problems in one pedal. They call it SYZR

The Stainless SYZR pedal system has its origin with the Speedplay Zero pedal: A tough pedal that can put up with pro riders like Fabian Cancellara, and be simple to use. An off-road version of the Speedplay Zero was designed and took many forms before being released. The SYZR uses the cleat's contact with the pedal to produce power. No contact with the shoe's tread or lugs is needed for power transfer. Stability is achieved with geater lateral contact with the cleat and pedal body. The SYZR pedal body has a flow-through design called Open Architecture that allows it to shed mud and debris, making it an excellent choice for cyclocross racers. The adjustable float -made so famous by Speedplay- can be done on the cleat with a small allen wrench, allowing the rider to adjust inboard float and outboard float independently. Guides in the front of each cleat allows for faster and easier engagement; a stong argument for the ultimate cyclocross pedal. Tension can be adjusted for easier or harder release. A Speedplay grease gun (sold separately) can be used to flush out grime from bearings through the grease port found on each pedal.

This pedal requires a 15mm pedal wrench for installation.
