The Domane SL 6 Disc is a leading favorite for our customers looking for a smooth-riding, stable-handling, century-crusher.

A bike's smoothness is becoming a critical factor for many riders who have different goals. Challenging centuries, multi-day charity events and club rides on terrible pavement will all be made easier by the Domane SL 6 Disc. Trek used their proprietary 500 Series OCLV carbon fiber material to construct an award-winning frame that is not only lightweight, but soaks up vibration over every mile. Trek developed a technology that allows the Domane SL 6 to soak up impacts produced by potholes, railway crossings and broken tarmac: IsoSpeed. By installing a pair of cartridge bearings and an alloy pivot at the seat tube/top tube juncture, the Domane SL 6 Disc can absorb impacts to keep the rider more comfortable. Also, the Domane's seat tube continues through the IsoSpeed unit, ending in a no-cut seatmast. By using a longer continuous seat tube, the Domane's OCLV carbon fiber frame has been engineered to be more compliant that a classic seat post and frame design. A fresher rider not only finishes a given distance with less effort, but are also more alert, reducing the chance of accidents or just navigating mishaps. A second IsoSpeed decoupler is found at the top of the head tube, allowing the stem and handlebar to flex downward slightly, improving upper body comfort. The Endurance geometry found on all Domane road bicycles provides a more upright posture, allowing a wider range of riders -and rider flexibilities- to get comfortable with minimal component changes. A long wheelbase also improves overall stability along with a slightly lower bottom bracket position compared to classic road bikes.

The impressive technology found on the Domane SL 6 Disc is more than just clever materials engineering and a pair of IsoSpeed decouplers. The design features found throughout bike's frame improve handling and power transfer in several ways. A tapered head tube adds to the Domane's handling precision, especially during fast turns and descents. The BB90 press-fit bottom bracket ensures flex-free power delivery for tackling uphill, out-of-the-saddle charges. The Domane's Power Transfer construction takes yet another step to eliminate power-robbing torsional frame flex. The Domane SL 6 Disc's fork is also a fully carbon fiber unit from dropouts to the top of the steerer tube. The overall construction not only keeps weight very low, it also allows the front IsoSpeed to work more effectively. Even the carbon fiber layup of the Domane's fork works to smoothe out rough and choppy pavement.

Sometimes the small details make the biggest differences. The frame of the Domane SL 6 Disc has a fairly long list:

  • An adjustable 3S chain keeper that helps eliminate dropped chains, greasy fingers and roadside stops
  • An aperture in the left chainstay for a DuoTrap S speed/cadence sensor (sold separately) requires no clumsy zip-ties for installation
  • 12mm thru-axles ensure perfect hub and disc brake installation as well as improving lateral frame and fork rigidity for even better handling
  • Vanishing fender mounts that bring a clean look to the Domane SL 6 Disc when fenders aren't installed
  • Internal cable routing keeps the Domane SL 6 Disc looking sleek and tidy
  • Flat mount disc brake installation reduces caliper flexing for better lever feedback and even pad wear

Shimano's recently redesigned Ultegra components share design cues from their pro-level Dura-Ace line. More of a refinement than an outright revolution, the "R8020" series of Ultegra components make the riding experience more about the ride, rather than how to simply operate the bicycle. Several improvements were made over the previous 6800-series:

  • Stiffer, more aero asymmetric drive-side crankset for improved power transfer
  • Redesigned Shadow-style long-cage rear derailleur allows up to an 11-34T cassette
  • Redesigned front derailleur required less hand strength to shift to the larger chainring
  • Greater adjustability of lever reach for different hand sizes
  • Shorter shift lever throw for upshifts and downshifts
  • Redesigned lever hoods for improved comfort, brake control and feedback
  • Flat-mount hydraulic disc brake calipers allow for a lighter frame design with better lever feedback
  • Shimano "Freeza" brake rotors disperse heat better with stainless steel braking surfaces for longer brake pad life

Bontrager's disc-specific Paradigm wheelset bring a wider rim profile to road cycling, improving the tire's contact patch with the road. Lower rolling resistance, improved ride quality and more confident cornering are found with a wider 23mm rim. Stacked lacing adds to the wheel's lateral rigidity for added handling precision. The alloy wheels are tubeless-ready, allowing much lower tire pressures over uneven roads and hardpack surfaces. 700x32c Bontrager R2 Hard-Case Lite tires offer a smooth ride as well as excellent handling and grip. The Ultegra 50/34T compact crankset and 11-34T Ultegra cassette bring a huge gearing range to the Domane SL 6 Disc.

Bontrager also supplies the alloy Elite IsoZone road handlebar, accessory-ready alloy Pro Blendr stem, and Arvada Comp saddle.
