Giant's Defy endurance road bicycles have made every mile better for recreational riders looking to finish centuries and "challenge" rides, to professionals hammering over the cobblestones of Northern Europe. The Defy Advanced Pro 1 features a newly redesigned frame that improves performance with higher volume tires as well as improved ride quality and torsional strength. The overall fit is the same as last season's Defy: Upright and comfortable with a tall head tube. This allows a wider range of riders -and rider flexibilities- to get comfortable easily.

Advanced-Grade carbon fiber is used throughout the Defy Advanced Pro 1, keeping the bike's frame astonishingly light. Who does Giant get their raw carbon fiber from? Giant, of course! They cut custom patterns out of their own raw carbon sheeting on-site at the factory that builds the Defy's frame, eliminating waste and improving quality control. All the raw carbon material is then hand-fitted into molds, allowing every step of fabrication to be closely monitored. The main triangle is built first, with the rear triangle added later to further refine the bike's ride quality, depending on frame size. The new Defy Advanced Pro series frame gets a redesigned main triangle, enhancing the bike's already impressive strength. The press-fit PowerCore bottom bracket is still here, anchoring the crankset to ensure flex-free power delivery. A massive OverDrive 2 head tube/steerer tube interface enhances handling and torsional strength further, making the Defy Advanced Pro a brilliant machine on steep, hilly terrain. 12mm front and rear thru-axles not only make installing disc brake wheels a snap, they improve the frameset's torsional strength even further. Tire clearance has been increased, allowing the use of up to 32mm tires. The Defy Advanced Pro's seat tube and Composite carbon fiber D-Fuse seatpost share the same flat-backed profile that adds an extra dash of compliance over rough surfaces right where it's needed. An aperture in the left chainstay is for a RideSense speed/cadence sensor (sold separately), eliminating the need for clumsy zip-ties. Internal cable routing gives the Defy Advanced Pro 1 a clean look.

The Defy Advanced Pro 1 is equipped with Shimano's newest 11-speed Ultegra R8000 components, including hydraulic disc brakes. The adjustable-reach Ultegra levers require less hand effort when shifting, while the Shadow-style R8000 rear derailleur is less prone to damage in the event of a right-side crash. The Ultegra long-cage rear derailleur also accommodates an 11-34T Shimano Ultegra cassette for fearsome climbs. When paired with a sleek Ultegra 50/34T compact crankset, the Defy Advanced pro 1 boasts a 1-to-1 gear ratio for the steepest of inclines. Giant's tubeless-ready SLR-1 composite carbon fiber wheels weigh in at only 1510 grams, giving the Defy Advanced Pro 1 the lightest stock wheels in its price range. A 30mm-deep profile and bladed aero spokes add an aero boost when fighting headwinds, while the option to go tubeless eliminates pinch-flats. Giant's own 700x28c Gavia AC1 tubeless tires bring very low rolling resistance to the Defy Advanced Pro 1 and add confident grip in the turns. Shimano's latest Ultegra hydraulic disc brakes bring power and control to the rider through excellent lever feedback. Heat dispersing fins on the pads reduce brake fade, while flat-mount caliper installation reduces overall weight. Stopping power is consistant in all conditions, rain or shine.

The Defy Advanced Pro 1's Contact saddle sits atop the aforementioned D-Fuse seatpost, making for a comfortable perch during century rides (or longer). An alloy Contact SL Stealth stem routes cables under an extended cap, keeping the bike's aerodynamics just a little more refined. A Composite carbon fiber SLR D-Fuse road handlebar boasts an extra 10% compliance over rough and choppy pavement, keeping the rider fresher for longer.

The Giant Defy Advanced Pro 1 has had a significant redesign since last year. Come in and test ride for yourself!
