Once a cyclist gets above 25mph, they're spending nearly 90% of their power simply trying to push through the air. The bicycle they're riding makes a huge difference in how well they accomplish that task. This is a bike that helps cut through the air better than many we've ever sold.

Felt's IA2 is built around a frame shape that required throwing out the UCI's restrictive rulebook for time trial racing at the professional level (how many of us race as professional cyclists, anyway?). Felt knew that, and built a no-holds-barred triathlon machine.  The IA2 slices through the air with a deep-section frame and fork that keeps cables routed internally, and brake calipers hidden away from the airstream. A deep-cross-section frame is easy to build, if weight isn't a factor. But Felt's engineers knew they coundn't build a competitive tri-bike that also weighed 30 lbs. Riding up Mid Town Road on the Ironman course requires something lighter than that, and Felt had answers.

Felt brought something better to the table than garden-variety carbon fiber to build the frame of the IA2: TexTreme carbon fiber. TexTreme takes a revolutionary approach to building with carbon fiber by using flattened ribbon-like threads, or tows, that make up the raw fabric of carbon fiber. This allows Felt to build the IA2's frame much lighter with less resin, improving quality control, torsional strength and uniform weight from the first bike to the last. By using lighter material, Felt could also get more creative with the frame's shape, allowing it to be more pracitical as well as aerodynamically slick. For example, the storage bin at the front of the top tube that holds a rider's gels and race-day nutrition wouldn't be possible with "regular" carbon fiber. That frame strength allowed Felt to use integrated brake calipers that are hidden away, eliminating any drag from brake cable housing. The aero-blade seatpost is also made from UHC Advanced carbon fiber, keeping weight down while keeping aero numbers high. The DiffLock seat clamp and two-sided Internalock seatpost clamp virtually eliminate creaking.

An internal shifter cable issue on a triathlon/TT bike is invariably a headache to fix. Fishing a cable through a frame can be an exercise in frustration, but Felt eliminated the problem altogether: SRAM's wireless Red eTap drivetrain! Yes, wireless. Nothing connects the derailleurs to the shift buttons (found on the base bar and the end of the aero bars) except a coded signal. Shifting speed is incredibly quick, even under hard pedaling loads. The batteries are rechargeable and are found on each derailleur. They're even interchangeable, front to rear. The shifters require a plain CR2032 watch battery you might find in a heart rate monitor or analog handlebar computer. A power-meter-ready Quarq crankset sports a 52/36T chainring combination, while an 11-28T SRAM cassette is ready when the course gets hilly. The tubeless-ready alloy Zipp 30 Course wheelset isn't just a heavy "training day" set of hoops. They're ready for long-course events. The rim's 21mm-wide interior allows a tire to spread out for a better contact patch, improving rolling resistance and lateral grip. Even the hubs are Zipp's latest 77/177 hubs, featuring straight-pull Sapim CX Ray spokes for long service life.

The IA2's saddle is already an upgrade: An ISM PS1.0 designed for triathlons and the rider posture that goes with it, not some no-name slab of plastic intended to be discarded. Up front, the base bar is also made from Felt's own UHC Ultimate carbon fiber, keeping drag low with a flattened aero shape. 3-way adjustable S-bend aero bars can be dialed in with included spacers, making the IA2 a comfortable steed. A BTSpac gear box for tools and a flat kit mounted behind the seat tube also improves drag numbers.
