At first, the trails can be challenging. Until you get a handle on the easy ones. After that, you need a trail bike that will help keep the rubber side down.

The Trance series of mountain bikes from Giant aren't trying to be cross-country competition machines. They're not nimble bikes that pick their way through rock gardens and root "fun houses". They just storm over the top of them. Trail bikes boast stable handling to keep you on your chosen line, and the Trance 3 starts with a platform and geometry that lets you do just that. An ALUXX SL-Grade aluminum frame is the "backbone" of this bike, offering incredible torsional strength for instant power transfer and confident handling. A tapered OverDrive head tube/steerer tube interface adds an extra dash of razor-sharp handling. The Maestro rear suspension makes best use of that backbone, soaking up big hits and ugly washboard surfaces with equal ease. An air-adjustable RockShox Deluxe R rear shock is installed in a Trunnion-style mount and Forged Composite upper rock, all but eliminating lateral bind that prevents smooth suspension action. With that shock and 140mm of travel, every bump feels silky-smooth! Up front, an air-adjustable Suntour AION 35-Boost RC DS suspension fork features 150mm of travel, helping you tame gnarly trails with the Trance 3.

Technical trails should be given all of your attention, so multiple chainrings aren't a great idea. The Trance 3 gets a single rear Shimano Deore shifter and Shadow+ Deore derailleur, keeping the shifting light, simple and reliable. A 30T Praxis Cadet chainring is matched with an 11-46T Shimano casette, offering a massive gearing range for roller-coaster trails and challenging climbs. Giant's own tubeless-ready AM 27.5 wheels are wrapped with tubeless 27.5x2.5" Maxxis High Roller II tires that bring massive grip to the party. The alloy rims sport a 30mm inner width, allowing the tire a wider contact patch on the trail. Helping to keep speed in check is a set of Shimano hydraulic disc brakes that boast excellent stopping power is all conditions, rain or shine.

A dropper post isn't just a popular add-on to a trail bike (full suspension or not); it can ensure the rider can shift their center of gravity far enough by getting the saddle out of the way. Giant's own Contact Switch dropper seatpost features a bar-mounted remote lever that drops the Giant Contact saddle when you need it. An alloy Connect stem and alloy Connect handlebar completes this trail conquerer.
