The best mountain bike for a beginner is the one that produces the most smiles-per-mile. The Roscoe 7 is a great place to start!

The Roscoe family of mountain bikes began with a simple mission: Build an affordable performance mountain bike that was easy for beginners to enjoy. Many bike companies will claim they have plenty of affordable mountain bikes for beginners, but many turn out to be introductory racing machines that handle like scared rabbits. The Roscoe, however, is a different animal. It isn't an aggressive-fit XC machine for flying down fast, hardpan trails. It is much more at home on a wider range of trails, from smooth and fast to technical and rough. The Roscoe's fit is more upright than a racer, allowing a wider range of beginning riders to get comfortable with off-road riding. Can the Roscoe still be raced? Sure! But be prepared to put some sunscreen on your gums for how much fun it will be!

The Roscoe 7 is built around an Alpha Gold aluminum frame, ensuring a strong chassis with excellent handling thanks to tube shaping and hydroforming. The rear wheel is tucked under the rider, improving power transfer and adding a more nimble feel to the bike. A tapered head tube enhances the frame's torsional strength, giving the Roscoe 7 a more razor-sharp feel in tight turns and descents. An air-adjustable RockShox Judy SL suspension fork can handle a wider range of rider weights and trail conditions than an elastomer fork, especially with 120mm of travel. There's even a lockout knob for charging down fire roads or just commuting to work. Did we mention that the Roscoe 7 has rack and bottle cage mounts, too? Internal cable routing keeps the bike looking clean and sleek.

A single-ring SRAM SX Eagle drivetrain makes perfect sense on the Roscoe 7, allowing the rider to concentrate fully on the trail ahead. An 11-50T SRAM cassette brings a massive gearing range to the party, helping to make short work of challenging inclines and roller-coaster trails. A 30T SRAM SX Eagle crankset does power delivery duties without power-robbing flex. Bontrager supplies the 40mm-wide alloy Line 40 rims, giving the tires a broad footprint for better control. Bontrager also brings a set of meaty tubeless-ready 27.5x2.80" XR3 Team Issue tires to the Roscoe 7, boasting boatloads of grip in all conditions. Shimano hydraulic disc brakes add confident stopping power to the bike in all conditions.

Bontrager's popular Arvada saddle is mounted on a TransX dropper post, complete with bar-mounted remote lever. Getting the saddle out of the way on steep trail tip-ins is a useful feature for riders of all experience levels, not just downhill pros. An alloy Bontrager Rhythm stem and alloy Bontrager handlebar complete the cockpit of this brilliant machine.
