A trail bike worthy of the name should be able to dominate singletrack. When you want to dominate all day, you need Trek's Fuel EX 9.7.

The Fuel EX 9.7 takes all of Trek's expertise in suspension technology and innovation, and adds a carbon fiber main triangle. Trek's exclusive OCLV Mountain carbon fiber frame material allows the Fuel EX 9.7 to help deliver power through the crankset, handle twisty trails at speed, and make sure total weight remains low. The frame is the skeleton of any bicycle, and riders expecting more out of their machines need a strong "backbone". Even the Active Braking Pivot (or ABP) suspension needs to have rock-solid mounting points to ensure every bump is handled without binding or friction due to a rubbery frame. The star of the ABP show is an air-adjustable Fox Performance Float EVOL shock with exclusive RE:aktiv technology. 130mm of suspension travel will help keep the rear wheel on the trail, while a 3-position damper lets you tweak shock performance on the fly. A PF92 bottom bracket anchors the crankset, ensuring flex-free power delivery during hard, out-of-the-saddle efforts. The Fuel EX 9.7's tapered head tube helps keep the front wheel pointed when you want it, while the Straight Shot down tube improves torsional strength further for more precise handling. Spinning forks and damaged down tubes are a thing of the past, thanks to the Knock Block steerer stop in the headset/stem interface. Keeping the bike looking clean (and operating smoothly) is Trek's clever Control Freak internal routing for shifter and dropper post cables. Up front, an air-adjustable Fox Rhythm 34 Float suspension fork boasts a GRIP adjustable damper and 130mm of travel.

Today's trail bikes require simplicity and durability as well as ease of use. There's nothing easier that a single-ring drivetrain, and SRAM's 12-speed GX Eagle components do the job well. A SRAM GX Eagle shifter and SRAM GX Eagle rear derailleur with Roller Bearing Clutch handles gear change duties. A Truvativ Descendant 6k Eagle crankset is equipped with a 32T Direct Mount single chainring for power transfer duties. Out back, a massive 11-50T SRAM Eagle cassette boasts a huge gearing range for day-long riding on challenging trails.

The wheelset of a trail bike can truly define how it will interact with the trail surface, and Trek didn't fool around on the Fuel EX 9.7. Bontrager's tubeless-ready alloy Line Comp 30 wheels feature a 54T Rapid Drive freehub that all but eliminates "dead spots" when pedaling. The rim's 29mm internal width allows the tire's tread pattern to spread out for more effective grip, while Boost 100/148 hub axle spacing adds extra lateral stiffness. Those Boost thru-axles ensure perfect brake disc alignment every time the wheels are installed. Bontrager also supplies the 29x2.40" tubeless-ready XR4 Team Issue tires, adding confident bite to the trails. Shimano's Deore hydraulic disc brakes boast excellent stopping power in all conditions, rain or shine (or mud).

Bontrager's Arvada saddle sits atop a Line dropper post with a bar-mounted remote lever, getting itself out of the way on steep drop-ins with the press of a button. An alloy Line Knock Block stem and alloy Line handlebar complete the cockpit of this capable trail machine.
