Remember the trails you passed up because you thought you just needed more confidence in your skills? This bike will add boatloads of fun to the challenge!

The Fuel EX 5 Plus takes the proven Fuel EX chassis and bolts on massive wheel and tires. Schwalbe's 2.80"-wide Nobby Nic Performance tires bring a massive footprint to the trails. Off-camber sections, root-strewn singletrack and carniverous rock gardens are not nearly as fearsome with this combination of bike and tire. The Fuel EX chassis starts with a lightweight Alpha Platinum aluminum frame, ensuring incredible torsional strength for flex-free handling and power transfer. The tapered head tube and press-fit PF92 bottom bracket are connected by a Straight Shot downtube, reducing weight and enhancing frame even strength further. Normally, this design might pose a challenge if you took a, shall we say, "unplanned inspection of the undergrowth" and damaged the down tube with a spinning fork. But the Fuel EX uses a clever Knock Block steerer stop, keeping the crown from denting frame during a tumble. Cool, huh? Trek's Control Freak internal cable routing keeps derailleur, dropper post and hydraulic hosing from getting tangled internally. A down tube guard prevents paint chips from front tire "roost". G2 geometry helps The Fuel EX 5 Plus handle every turn and bend even better.

The Fuel EX 5 Plus features Trek's exclusive Active Braking Pivot (or ABP) rear suspension, adding World Cup technology to every ride. ABP ensures that, no matter how hard you pedal and how hard you mash on the brakes, the rear suspension won't tighten. The suspension is free to do the job of reacting to the terrain and keeping you under control. The upper one-piece EVO Link eliminates lateral binding in the rear shock, letting it soak up impacts freely. The EVO Link also sports a small reverseable Mino Link that allows the rider to change the geometry of the Fuel EX 5 Plus with one tool. An air-adjustable RockShox Deluxe RL shock brings 130mm of travel to the rear of the Fuel EX 5 Plus, giving the rider outstanding control on rough technical sections. Up front, an air-adjustable RockShox Recon RL suspension fork boasts 140mm of travel, helping to keep the bike where you point it.

The Fuel EX 5 Plus is equipped with a single-ring drivetrain, reducing mechanical complexity and weight. A 10-speed Shimano Deore shifter controls a Shadow+ Deore rear derailleur, giving a precise feel to every gear change. A Race Face Ride crankset features a 30T direct mount chainring for power delivery duties. Out back, an 11-42T cassette offers a massive gearing range for tackling roller-coaster singletrack.

The rolling stock on the Fuel EX 5 Plus is a major reason why this bike can tear into scary singletrack so well A pair of tubeless-ready alloy Alex MD35 rims are double-walled for enhanced strength. The 35mm width allows the tire tread to spread out and gain better grip than a narrow cross-country rim. 32-spoke lacing improves durability further when hamming downhill on rocky terrain. The aformentioned Schwalbe Nobby Nic tires are also tubeless-ready, and are constructed with a very supple casing that keeps rolling resistance very low despite their massive 27.5x2.80" size. Shimano hydraulic disc brakes help to reign in speed, even in messy or dirty conditions.

A Bontrager Arvada saddle, alloy 2-bolt seatpost, alloy Rhythm Comp stem and alloy handlebar complete this singletrack challenger.
