This is Trek's best offering in the gravel/adventure market. The Checkpoint SL 6 is a from-scratch design that emphasizes versatility as well as performance.

The Checkpoint SL-series frame is built with Trek's own 500 Series OCLV carbon fiber, ensuring feather-lightness and astounding torsional strength. The geometry of the Checkpoint SL frame features a low bottom bracket position that keeps the rider's center of gravity feeling planted; useful on dirt roads, gravel trails and unexpected surface changes. The wheelbase is also adjustable, thanks to the Stranglehold thru-axle rear dropouts. 15mm of fore-aft adjustment allows the rider to tweak tire clearance and handling. Speaking of tire clearance, the Checkpoint can take tires up to 45mm wide! That will allow installation of Bontrager's new 700x40c GR1 and GR2 gravel-specific tires, as well as offerings from Panaracer and Donnelly (sold separately, please call for availability). A clever asymmetrical chainstay design lets the rear wheel get in close to the seat tube while still providing adequate tire and mud clearance. The fit of the Checkpoint SL 6 is more upright like the Domane, allowing a wider range of riders -and rider flexibilties- to get comfortable for long journeys on rough roads.

The details on the Checkpoint SL 6 frameset make it an outstanding choice for off-pavement adventures and gravel races.

  • A rear IsoSpeed decoupler and Ride Tuned seat mast system soaks up road vibration effectively, keeping the rider fresher for longer
  • Mounts for front and rear racks, fenders, and up to 4 water bottle cages, depending on frame size
  • An adjustable 3S chain keeper helps prevent dropped chains, roadside delays and greasy fingers
  • 12mm thru-axles front and rear ensure proper brake disc alignment and improved handling
  • Downtube-mounted Carbon Armor helps keep stones and "roost" from smacking the frame, beating up the finish
  • Control Freak internal cable routing keeps cables and housing tidy as well as silent on rough terrain

The Checkpoint SL 6 is equipped with Shimano's latest 11-speed Ultegra "R8020" components, bringing lightning-quick operation, excellent longevity and very low weight to the bike. The brake hoods have been reshaped, giving the rider better grip while reach adjustability has been kept for smaller-handed riders. The rear Ultegra derailleur on the Checkpoint is a long-cage version, and boasts a Shadow-style design brought over from mountain biking. The new Shadow version not only requires less hand strength to operate, it is also less likely to get snagged by trail-side branches and rocks. The front derailleur is also redesigned, with the same toggle-style mechanism found on the newest Dura-Ace unit. The trimmed tail of the front derailleur's cage adds clearance for wider tires on a short-wheelbase bike.  Flat-mount Ultegra hydraulic disc brakes add confident stopping power in all conditions as well as excellent lever feedback. The stainless steel IceTech Freeza rotors disperse heat much faster than conventional rotors; helpful when descending fast while loaded down with cargo. A 50/34T Ultegra compact crankset and 11-34T Shimano HG800 cassette boasts a huge gearing range for challenging climbs and steep descents.

Bontrager's tubeless-ready alloy Paradigm Comp wheels are laced up with straight-pull stainless steel spokes for improved ride quality and durability. 19.5mm-wide rims allow the tire to plant more rubber on the road, lowering rolling resistance and improving grip. Schwalbe's 700x35c G-One Allround tires are tubeless-ready and feature a low-profile tread for hardpan and pavement riding.

Bontrager also brings a Montrose Comp saddle, accessory-ready alloy Elite Blendr stem and Race Lite IsoZone VR-CF road handlebar to the Checkpoint SL 6.
