Size matters. The larger the tire, the better the traction. And more traction is always more fun!

With (very) large tires comes the need for a redesign of a bike's frame, and Trek's engineers took that seriously. Starting with featherweight OCLV Mountain carbon fiber, the Stache's "chassis" is incredible strong for instant pedaling response and precise handling. Flowing frame tubes and a tapered E2 head tube enhance torsional strength, helping to keep the Stache right where you point it. A press-fit PF92 bottom bracket anchors the crankset, making power delivery flex-free. The thru-axle Stranglehold rear dropout allows the rider to dial in frame geometry and rear tire clearance, personalizing the overall feel and handling of the Stache. Internal cable routing for the shifter and dropper post gives the bike an uncluttered look. Don't let that higher right-side chainstay throw you. It allowed Trek to shorten the chainstays considerably, as well as eliminate chain slap. That Midstay feature -along with the Stranglehold dropout- makes the Stache 9.7 ready to convert to single-speed when you want. An air-adjustable RockShox Pike RL suspension fork helps keep the bike stable as you attack rock gardens and root "fun houses". 120mm of travel and beefy stanchions makes hard landings more manageable, and the 15mm thru-axle adds an extra dash of handling precision.

SRAM brought a new standard of mountain drivetrain to the party at last year's Olympics:12-speed Eagle. The Stache 9.7 boasts SRAM's new Eagle GX components, including the rear shifter and Roller Bearing Clutch rear derailleur, producing ultra-fast shifting quality and impressive durability. A massive 10-50T SRAM cassette allows the rider to tackle crazy roller-coaster trails in conjuction with a 32T SRAM Descendant Eagle single-ring crankset. SUNringle's 28-spoke tubeless-ready alloy Duroc 50 SL rims are laced to Bontrager Boost100/148 hubs, keeping the Stache's rotating mass low while keeping durability high. Massive tubeless-ready Bontrager Chupacabra 29x3.00" tires are where the magic happens, with truckloads of grip and low rolling resistance. Helping to keep speed reigned in is SRAM's Guide R hydraulic disc brakes, ensuring mighty stopping power in all conditions, wet or dry.

Bontrager makes every drop-off and tip-in just a little less hairy with the addition of a Drop Line 125 dropper post. A handlebar-mounted lever allows the rider to get the Ti-railed Montrose Elite saddle out of the way when the descents get really steep. A 35mm-diameter OCLV carbon fiber handlebar is mounted in an alloy Bontrager Line Pro stem, keeping weight low and strength high.
