This is the machine that you've heard so much about. Everything you've heard is true.

The Madone 9.5 is the result of an evolutionary process of making a bike that needs very little energy to slice though the air. The previous generation Madone was still somewhat aero, but not like this! Aerodynamic shaping is seen at all points on the frameset, from the tapered fork tips to the IsoSpeed seatmast to the bladed seatstays. The flat-backed aero profiles of the frame tubes and fork blades are known as Kammtail Virtual Foil, or KVF. This keeps drag numbers very low, but still handles crosswinds brilliantly. If you don't see any cables, you're not supposed to. Everything is tucked inside the frame and one-piece bar/stem combination for incredibly low drag numbers. The Bontrager brake calipers are clevery integrated into the frame, with a moving "trapdoor" on either side of the head tube to allow for tight turns. Ride comfort hasn't been forgotten about. In fact, it was obsessed over. The Madone 9.5 boasts the same isoSpeed decoupler at the seat tube/top tube juncture as the Domane, adding a smooth ride quality that most other road bikes -much less other aero bikes- will never match.

The Madone features much of the same "architecture" found in many other successful frame designs, such as a tapered E2 head tube and press-fit BB90 bottom bracket. Keeping the Madone 9.5's aero numbers low is also the job of small details, such as an aperture in the left chainstay for a DuoTrap S speed/cadence sensor (sold separately) that eliminates the need for "dirty" zip-ties. A tiny door in the Madone's down tube allows access to the Di2 junction box for recharging and reprogramming through Shimano's E-Tube software. An aero-shaped 3S chain keeper prevents dropped chains and the roadside hassles that come with it.

Shimano's recently updated 11-speed Ultegra Di2 components -now referred to as R8050- feature several refinements for a more user-friendly feel, better performance and more precise operation:

  • More positive clicks with each shift on the dual-control levers
  • More comfortable texture on the reshaped Di2 lever hoods, plus programmable buttons under the peaks of the hoods
  • More aerodynamic Shadow-style Ultegra Di2 rear derailleur
  • Larger 30T rear cassette cog capacity on the Ultegra Di2 derailleur
  • Improved aerodynamics on the 50/34T Ultegra compact crankset without adding weight or reducing rigidity

The carbon fiber Aeolus Pro 3 wheels of the Madone 9.5 could also be called aero masterpieces. With Bontrager's D3 approach to aerodynamics, the 35mm rim profile still slices the air effectively, but also remains stable in gusty crosswinds. Whether the rim or the tire is leading through the air, the same low drag numbers appear. The rim's 19.5mm interior width allows the tire to produce a wider contact patch on the pavement, adding lateral grip and reducing rolling resistance. They're tubeless-ready as well, all but eliminating flats with the right tires, sealant and gasketed valve stems. 700x25c Bontrager R3 Hard-Case Lite tires comlete the Madone's rolling stock.

The handlebar of the Madone 9.5 is the first thing that hits the air, and therefore got a major wind-tunneling treatment. The result is an OCLV carbon fiber one-piece bar/stem combination that gets the KVF treatment as well. Trek also wanted to be practical, and added mounting points for Blendr accessory installation under the leading edge of the handlebar. 13 bar/stem dimension combinations can be ordered for a perfect fit. A Ti-railed Montrose Elite saddle completes this incredible speed machine.

A Shimano Di2 charging cable is free with the purchase of this bicycle.

This bicycle can be customized for ordering through Trek's Project One program. Please call for details.
