The Madone 9-series was designed to be the ultimate aero road bike without any of the drawbacks. The harshness and vibration of the recent crop of hyper-rigid aero machine is gone, thanks to Trek's innovative IsoSpeed decoupler at the seat tube/top tube junction. The IsoSpeed decoupler was engineered into the Madone 9.0 from the outset, allowing the design team to build the rest of the bike around it rather than adding it later. With a more comfortable ride comes fresher legs and more energy left to achieve new PR's and win. Making the Madone 9-series took Computational Fluid Dynamics (or CFD for short) software to ensure the frame shape would work in headwinds and crosswinds. The resulting frame shape uses a chopped Kammtail profile that is lighter, more torsionally rigid and smoother riding that classic teardrop tube profiles found on the competition. Even the fork and seatpost features this design, keeping the Madone nearly invisible to the wind. Trek used their proprietary 600 Series OCLV carbon fiber to keep overall weight astonishingly low, while allowing the designers to get even more creative with tube profiles. Internal cable routing would be a must with the Madone 9.0, but this version eschews the fully-faired one-piece bar/stem design for a classic alloy stem and road handlebar. The owner can then disassemble the Madone 9.0 more easily for transport or home maintenance. This also allows the user to add clip-on aero bars for use in technical-course time trials and triathlons. By using a classic threadless stem, Trek allowed plenty of riders looking for a more comfortable fit with a more upright-angled stem. The rest of the Madone 9.0's frame features are all identical to the more expensive Madone bikes, including an aperture for the IsoSpeed S speed/cadence sensor (sold separately) in the left chainstay, the moveable "speed flaps" at the bottom of the head tube for the front brake caliper, and the integrated Bontrager brake calipers themselves. Even the 3S aero chain keeper is the same.

For 2018, Trek built with Madone 9.0 with Shimano's latest update to their peerless 11-speed Ultegra component group: The Ultegra 8000 series. A more rigid crankset, an easier-to-operate front derailleur, more comfortable lever hoods, and a Shadow+ rear derailleur that is tucked away from the wind are just a few of the updates found on the new 8000-series of Ultegra components. A 50/34T compact Ultegra crankset and 11-28T Ultegra cassette boast a huge gearing range, making the Madone 9.0 an excellent choice for hilly century rides or even IronMan Wisconsin. Bontrager's tubeless-ready Aeolus Pro wheels add a sleek profile to the Madone, and even feature alloy braking surfaces. 700x25c Bontrager R3 Hard-Case Lite tires bring confident grip and easy acceleration to the party as well. Bontrager's alloy Pro stem can take Blendr acessories like lights and computers (sold separately), while the Race Lite Aero road handlebars keep a clean look with internal cable routing. The road handlebars are aero-bar friendly as well. Bontrager's Ti-railed Montrose Elite saddle completes this revolutionary road machine.
