Feather-lightness? Electronic shifting? Carbon fiber wheels? Pro-level technology just got more affordable with the Domane SL 7 WSD.

The Domane SL 7 WSD was developed for the brutal one-day springtime Classics of Northern Europe, where rough roads and crazy-steep climbs await unsuspecting pro racers. Come to think of it, that's what we have around Madison, WI! Unpleasant pavement and challenging inclines has caused plenty of riders to reduce their daily mileage.  But not anymore...

The Domane SL 7 brings pro-level technology to more riders. A featherlight OCLV carbon fiber frame, electronic shifting and even lightweight carbon fiber wheels make every hill easier and every mile smoother. The frameset of the Domane SL 7 WSD is built with Trek's proprietary 500 Series OCLV carbon fiber, endowing it with incredible torsional strength. The Domane's Power Transfer Construction frame shaping makes best use of that carbon fiber with a shaped down tube and massive chainstays. The E2 tapered head tube improves handling, especially during high-speed descents, while the ultra-stiff BB90 bottom bracket eliminates power-robbing flex at the crankset.

With all that going for it, you'd think the Domane SL 7 was designed just for thick-necked Belgian sprinters named Guther or something. But there's more to the Domane...

Trek's IsoSpeed decoupler has been a revelation in the cycling press and for riders looking for a smoother ride overall. The seat tube runs through the top tube and is connected with a pair of cartridge bearings that allows the bike to flex vertically over rough and choppy pavement. The seatpost has been replaced with a seat mast and cap, allowing Trek's frame engineers to add more compliance than a classic frame-and-post design. No cutting is required at the top of the mast, and two lengths of adjustable seatmast cap allow for a wide range of inseam lengths in a given frame size. Up front, a second IsoSpeed decoupler is installed at the top of the head tube, giving the handlebars just a bit of flex to that the edge off potholes and bad railroad track transitions.

The little details can make a good bike great, and a great bike fantastic. The Domane SL 7 WSD features internal cable routing for a clean look, an adjustable 3S chain keeper that prevents dropped chains and messy roadside delays, and even vanishing fender mounts. An aperture in the left chainstay accepts a DuoTrap S speed/cadence sensor (sold separately), eliminating the need for clumsy zip-ties.

Shimano's updated R8050-series Ultegra components are as good you've heard, with their Di2 electronic shifting seeing several improvements. The Ultegra Di2 dual-control levers have a better tactile feel when shifting, and the lever hoods have a more textured surface. Adjustable-reach levers accommodate small hands better as well. Even the rubber buttons on the top of the lever hoods can be programmed for shifting, too. The Shadow-style Ultegra Di2 long-cage rear derailleur not only shifts with precision across an 11-32T Ultegra cassette, but is also more resistant to crash damage with its tucked-in profile. A Di2 Ultegra front derailleur does shifting duties on the new 50/34T compact Ultegra crankset, even under hard pedaling loads. Needing to recharge your Di2 drivetrain may take up to 900 miles, and the included Shimano charging cable makes that 90-minute job a snap. Think of it: Perfect shifting. Every. Single. Time.

The wheelset of the Domane SL 7 WSD might get overlooked with all that shifting technology, but there's still plenty that will impress any rider. How about an OCLV carbon fiber wheelset that weighs only 1510 grams? What about bladed DT Aerolite Swiss Spokes and a 35mm aero rim profile? Yes, these Bontrager Aeolus Pro 3 wheels help make the bike leap out of the corners and won't hold you back on the flats or the hills. The laterally stiffer "stacked lacing" of the spokes add to the Domane's handling feel and resist rubbing against the brake pads under hard acceleration. The wheelset is tubeless-ready, and is shod with 700x28c Bontrager R2 Hard-Case Lite tires for confident handling and a smooth feel. Bontrager Speed Stop direct-mount brake calipers adds better brake lever feedback, ensuring more controlled stops.  Bontrager also supplies the accessory-ready Pro Blendr stem and short-reach alloy Elite IsoZone road handlebars. A Bontrager Ajna Comp saddle completes this cobble-worthy machine.

A Shimano charging cable is included with the purchase of this bicycle.
