The Trek 7.7 FX has always been a bike we’re eager to see new versions of. This year’s 7.7 FX still retains Trek’s amazing 400-series OCLV carbon fiber frame, but looking closer will indicate just how much thought went in to updating it. First, the 2016 version new features an IsoSpeed decoupler at the seat tube/top tube joint for the amazing ride quality found in the Domane road bicycle. Rough and choppy pavement no longer clatters the rider, and yet weight is still kept to a minimum. The 7.7 FX has an aperture for an ANT+ DuoTrap speed/cadence sensor (sold separately), and vanishing fender mounts for versatility in inclement weather. The 7.7 FX’s tapered head tube ensures a more direct feel in fast turns and descents, while the IsoSpeed fork with curved blades soak up bumps with aplomb.
Shimano’s 10-speed Tiagra components are used throughout the 7.7 FX’s drivetrain, including the front and rear derailleurs, 50/34T compact crankset, 12-30T cassette and flat-bar shifters. 24-spoke alloy wheels are shod with 25mm Bontrager tires, keeping rolling resistance low and weight down. Bontrager also supplies the Evoke saddle, alloy seatpost, alloy Blendr stem, and Satellite Plus IsoZone handlebar.
