Beautiful, isn't it? The Defy Advanced 2 not only looks good on paper, but is stunning in person. Giant has been refining their Defy endurance bicycles, and the trickle-down of technology is obvious. At this price point, a lightweight Advanced-grade Composite framseset, and 11-speed Shimano 105 components and hydraulic disc brakes is almost unheard of. Yet here it is.

The bare frameset is already very impressive. Tapered tube shapes and internal cable routing makes the Defy a stunning machine. Giant's Advanced-grade carbon fiber has been tweaked to improve the Defy frame's strength-to-weight ratio, but also improve ride quality as well. The shape of the Defy's D-Fuse seatpost continues down the seat tube, improving vertivcal compliance over rough and choppy pavement. The thin seat stays also contribute to a smoother ride as well. Flex-free power delivery through the Shimano crankset and PowerCore press-fit bottom bracket makes every hill feel just a little flatter. Up front, the Defy's tapered OverDrive head tube/steerer tube improves torsional strength, adding a more precise feel to the Defy's handling in fast turns and descents. Stability over rough roads makes all the difference on day-long adventures, and the longer wheelbase and slightly relaxed geometry of the Defy Advanced 2 helps keep the bike pointed where you want it (and not where you don't).

Shimano's 11-speed 105 components have proven to be a benchmark in enthusiast cycling, boasting long service light, light weight and precise operation. The Defy Advanced 2 sports Shimano 105 components at the dual-control shifters, both derailleurs and 11-32T cassette, making the drivetrain lightning-quick, even under hard pedaling loads. A Shimano FC-R510 50/34T compact crankset offers a wide gearing range for steep ascents and fast descents. Giant's Conduct hydraulic disc brakes are a stroke of genius, keeping the Shimano 105 dual-control levers. With a Conduct cable-to-hydro junction box at the front of the handlebar, hydraulic disc brake calipers are used for better stopping power, lever feedback and self-adjusting brake pads. Cool, huh?

Giant's alloy PR-2 Disc wheelset is just that, disc-specific and are installed in the frame with 12mm thru-axles. Thru-axles improve torsional strength at the hubs and ensuring precise rotor alignment whenever installing the wheels. The rims are tubeless-ready, and are shod with 700x25c Gavia AC1 tubeless-ready tires. Giant's own Contact alloy road handlebar, alloy Connect stem and Contact Neutral saddle complete this outstanding machine.
