Giant's Anthem series of mountain bikes have become a serious challenger to the supposed "big guns" of cross-country. The Anthem SX begins with a hydroformed ALUXX SL aluminum frame that adds a rugged backbone for this race-ready machine. A tapered OverDrive head tube adds a more precise feel in twisty singletrack while a press-fit bottom bracket anchors the crankset for excellent power delivery. The Anthem SX features Giant's exclusive Maestro rear suspension geometry that boasts 110mm of suspension travel. By using a connected rear "upright" to hold the rear wheel like a racing car and connecting it to the main triangle with an upper and lower link (again, like a racing car), the Maestro suspension can handle rough and technical surfaces without being affected by pedaling forces. Cool, huh? The Anthem SX 2's upper link is now a lightweight one-piece Advanced Forged Composite unit, eliminating lateral binding stress on the RockShox Deluxe RT shock. The shock's Trunnion mount takes up less space in the frame's main triangle, reducing overall weight, too. Up front, an air-adjustable RockShox Yari RC Solo Air suspension fork soaks up ugly singletrack with 130mm of suspension travel. A Maxle thru-axle front hub adds an extra dash of precision in technical terrain. A thru-axle is used out back as well, improving power delivery to the rear wheel with improved torsional strength.

With all that going for it, the Anthem SX 2 would be a very effective racer and a total blast on nearly any singletrack. But there's more to a full-suspension bike that just the frame...

Giant built up the Anthem SX 2 with an arsenal of SRAM components, ensuring precise operation and light weight. A single-ring SRAM NX 30T crankset reduces weight and overall complexity up front, while a SRAM NX rear derailleur and shifter handles gear-change duties across a SRAM 11-42T cassette. A set of SRAM Guide R hydraulic disc brakes clamp down on 180mm rotors, adding impressive stopping power and excellent lever feedback. The Anthem SX's 27.5" tubeless-ready Giant XC-1 wheelset helps keep rotating weight down, and are wrapped with tubeless-ready Schwalbe Nobby Nic tires, adding outstanding control and low rolling resistance.

The Anthem SX even has a dropper post, which is unusual for an XC bike, but makes more sense in very technical terrain increasingly seen in XC races. The Giant Contact SL Switch-R dropper post is operated with a remote lever on the handlebar's left side. By getting the saddle out of the way during abrupt drops and technical descents, the Anthem SX's dropper post makes every "tip-in" easier (or at least less scary). The alloy Truvative Holzfeller stem, alloy Contact Trail handlebar and Giant Contact Neutral saddle complete the cockpit of this off-road challenger.
