A light, nimble cross-country mountain bike shouldn't be good at other things, right? The Giant Anthem Advanced proves it can be.

The Giant Anthem Advanced 2 is an excellent off-road racer in it's own right, with just-right handling, fantastic suspension technology and ultra-light weight. But the Anthem Advanced 2 goes further. The suspension travel is longer, giving it better speed and stability over rock gardens. A dropper post adds confidence during steep "tip-in" descents. The Gearing range is massive, even for a single-ring machine. The wheels are a feather-light and strong Composite constuction, not alloy.

Could this be the perfect mountain bike for, well, everything in Wisconsin?

The mainframe "skeleton" is made from Giant's Advanced Composite carbon fiber, bringing incredible torsional strength to the Anthem Advanced 2. High strength isn't just helpful during all-out uphill charges, but ensures the bike's handling is precise in technical terrain. The Anthem Advanced 2 also features a tapered OverDrive steerer tube, adding to the bike's handling prowess, especially under braking or tackling rocky trails. A press-fit PowerCore bottom bracket ensures flex-free power delivery from the crankset. The rear Maestro suspension brings a motorsports-inspired profile with upper and lower rocker links and a rigid "upright" rear triangle made from ALUXX SL-grade aluminum. The upper rocker link isn't a two-piece aluminum construction; it's a single piece of Advanced Forged material that lets the rear shock work smoothly without lateral binding. The rear shock itself is an air-adjustable RockShox Deluxe RT unit that brings 110mm of travel to the rear wheel. Up front, a RockShox Revalation RL Solo Air fork helps keep the front wheel pointed precisely with 120mm of travel. Air-adjustability, beefy 32mm stanchions and adjustable rebound make the Revelation RL an effective weapon when fighting your way through root "fun houses" and rock gardens. Connecting the wheels to the Anthem Advanced 2 are thru-axles front and rear. Up front, the 15mm RockShox Maxle thru-axle adds another layer of torsional strength to the fork. Slightly wider Boost110/148 hub spacing improves the lateral strength of the XCR 1 Composite rims.

With all that going for it, the Anthem Advanced 2 could be a competitive machine with a fairly basic component package. But Giant didn't stop there...

SRAM's single-ring drivetrain makes a strong arguement for throwing away your front derailleurs. With precise shifting -both up and down the cassette- through the X1 shifter, the Anthem Advanced 2 lets you concentrate on the trails instead of wondering if you're cross-chaining with every shift. The SRAM X1 rear derailleur's strength and precision eliminates slow responses, even during low-cadence shifts under power. A Roller Bearing Clutch prevents chain slap and clumsy operation in technical sections. A SRAM X1 30T crankset is built with hollow-forged arms for lightness, while X-Sync chainring teeth prevent a thrown chain. Giant supplies the 27.5" XCR 1 Composite wheels that weight only 1565 grams a pair. Yes, you read that right. They're tubeless-ready and have DT Swiss hub internals for long life. Schwalbe's 27.5x2.25" tires bring massive grip for all manner of trail surfaces from hardpan gravel to loose dirt and mud. Hydraulic SRAM Guide R disc brakes help reign in speed, even in wet and messy conditions. A Giant Contact SL Switch-R dropper post gets the Contact saddle out of your way during super-steep descents with a bar-mounted remote lever. Cool, huh? An alloy Contact stem and handlebar complete this race- and trail-ready machine.
