Mountain bike racing at the World Cup level requires committed athletes and a committed bicycle manufacturer to supply them with high-performance machines. Giant stepped up in 2014 to supply elite athletes with 27.5-wheeled bikes that feature the best tech Giant has to offer. This Anthem Advanced is the result of a year of putting racing bikes through the wringer of top-level racing.
The Anthem Advanced is built around an Advanced Composite carbon fiber frame that boasts astonishingly light weight as well as incredible torsional strength. Those two attributes let the rider and the suspension to perform better. The Anthem's head tube has an oversized and tapered OverDrive design, improving handling and braking in rough singletrack. The press-fit PowerCore bottom bracket anchors the crankset, eliminating power-robbing flex during hard efforts. Keeping the rear wheel on the ground is the job of the exclusive Maestro rear suspension system. Maestro uses two unequal-length pivot links that isolate the rear wheel from pedaling and braking forces while responding to bumps more smoothly. This guarantees improved control over a competitor's "legacy" suspension technology. Maestro allows the rear shock to operate more effectively over a wider range of impacts, from washboard chatter-bumps to harder landings. 100mm of suspension travel gives cross-country riders plenty to work with when more control is needed. A rear thru-axle also eliminates another flexible element in the drivetrain, keeping the rear wheel tracking cleanly over roots and rocks. The rear shock is an air-adjustable Fox Float CTD (Climb-Trail-Descend) Performance unit. Up front, a Fox Float CTD Factory fork with 100mm of air-adjustable travel soaks up impacts and helps hold a clean line through rock gardens. A front 15mm thru-axle adds an extra dose of handling precision. A remote lockout lever on the handlebar allows the rider to adjust for pavement with the flick of a switch.
Shimano's 10-speed XT components have become the most sought-after and respected components in mountain biking for a long list of reasons. That's why Giant added them to the Anthem Advanced 27.5 1. Rapid Fire shifters, a Shadow+ rear derailleur, front derailleur, 38/26T HollowTech 2 crankset, hydraulic disc brakes and levers. They're all Shimano XT for maximum performance and durability. The 27.5 wheels are Giant's own P-XCR1 Composite (not aluminum alloy!) tubeless-ready wheelset. Wrapping them are Schwalbe's Racing Ralph EVO tubeless-ready tires for confident grip. Giant's alloy Contact SL handlebar, stem, seatpost and Contact saddle complete this high-performance racer.
