Light bicycles make every hill and mountain less difficult, but going down the other side is sometimes an exercise in control, not fitness. Rainy weather is also a factor: Wet rims need a few moments to be scubbed dry by brake pads before braking feels confident. The Felt ZW3 has an answer to all those who hesitate riding in the rain.
The ZW3's frame is built with Felt's proprietary UHC Performance carbon fiber, keeping weight to a minimum while ensuring tosional strength, especially for uphill efforts. A stout BB30 bottom bracket all but eliminates energy-robbing flex during hard efforts. Thanks to the fork's all-carbon construction, hard braking efforts and twisty descents can feel downright tame. Internal cable routing adds a clean look to the ZW3 while keeping the shifter cables out of the weather. The upright fit of the ZW3 -plus a shorter top tube and better overall geometry- makes the ZW3 a better fit for a wider range of female riders looking to graduate to a well-designed performance road bike. Stable handling makes the ZW3 a real favorite for century rides, too.
Shimano's 11-speed Ultegra derailleurs, 50/34T compact Ultegra crankset, 11-32T Ultegra cassette and chain provide precise operation for year to come. The huge gearing range makes heavy triple cranksets practically antiques! Shifting is done with Shimano's 11-speed R685 levers that also operate the ZW3's hydraulic disc brakes. The hydraulic calipers clamp down on 140mm rotors at each end, providing excellent lever feedback during hard "threshold braking", and require less hand strength. Also, the levers are reach-adjustable, making the ZW3 an easy choice for those with small hands. Safer stopping just got easier. The lightweight DT Swiss alloy wheels are disc-specific, and have no need for a heavy braking track for rubber brake pads. Challenge supplies the tires, and they're super-comfy 27mm Paris-Roubaix's that were designed to take on rough and choppy pavement. A Prologo Kappa EVO saddle sit atop the ZW3's carbon fiber seatpost, while a short-reach alloy road handlebar and alloy stem complete the cockpit.
