Color: Satin Carbon with Red
The IA series of triathlon bicycles was produced to answer the question: "How can we make a bike faster when we ignore the road racer's rulebook?"
Starting with a clean sheet of paper, the IA series was designed from the outset to be the most aerodynamic machine that Felt has ever made. Deep cross-section frame tubes -the deepest we've ever seen- keep drag numbers lower than anything Felt has ever produced. Even the wing-style carbon fiber seat post is more aero than anything else we've seen on any bike.
Felt knew they had to start with world-beating raw materials for the IA's frame and fork, and they chose their UHC Advanced carbon fiber. Felt's most advanced construction techniques, including their proprietary InsideOut molding, were used to reduce the amount of resin in the finished product. The Dagger fork also uses the same material, reducing weight as well as fatiguing road vibration. From steerer to fork tips, the IA 4's fork is carbon fiber. Internal cable routing is used throughout the bike, and is electronic-ready if that upgrade is in the future. Integrated chain tensioners allow the rear wheel to be snugged up against the seat tube, minimizing drag at the back. The IA 4's top tube features a clever "bento box" that completely hides from the wind. A soft rubber cover keeps gels and other small items tucked away.
Shimano's 11-speed Ultegra derailleurs, chain and 11-25T cassette are paired with a set of MicroShift bar-end shifters and a Vision TriMax Pro Tri crankset with a 52/38T chainring combination. Anchored into the frame with a massive BB30 crankset, the Vision crank all but eliminates energy-robbing flex with every pedal stroke. A Felt Nano base bar and UHC Ultimate carbon fiber aero bar allows 8-way adjustability for a precise, comfortable fit for long hours in the saddle. Speaking of saddles, the ISM Attack saddle has become a favorite among many of our local triathletes. The Aero brake levers sport an adjuster on each lever clamp, allowing for small adjustments if a wheel comes out of true due to rough roads. The seat post/wing is also built with UHC Advanced carbon fiber and is secured with a 3T DiffLock anchor for secure assembly. The IA 4's wheelset are Felt's own TTR3 alloy wheels, equipped with 23mm Aero TTR2 tires. Blade-style spokes help to cleave the air.
This bicycle is not considered to be UCI-legal for national and international time trial racing. However, it should be considered legal for non-UCI events at the discretion of the event organizer.
