Raising the game in triathlon requires more than just a re-paint or a new set of components. It demands a re-think of the whole plan. That's exactly what Felt did with the IA10.
The IA family isn't new, but the approach that Felt took for the new IA10 gives every racer an edge. The UHC Performance carbon fiber used in the frame and fork has been carefully selected to produce a smooth ride quality, and is then directionally aligned in the frame molds. This gives the IA10 a magic-carpet feel to keep you fresher while spending 6+ hours in the saddle. Felt's exclusive InsideOut manufacturing process reduces the amount of resin needed in each frame element, keeping total weight low and quality control consistent. Every bike rides, weighs and feels the same in a given frame size. The Modular Monocoque Construction process reduces adhesives and total weight as well. The outermost layer is a high-strength 1K or 3K carbon fiber weave for improved impact protection. Computer modeling and wind tunnel testing are all well and good, but Felt supplies pro cycling road teams and triathletes for real-world testing. A slippery bike isn't any good if it rides too rough, or handles like a wet sponge. The IA10 has gone though that grinding test at the hands of triathletes and time trial racers around the world.
The IA10 is equipped with the latest in Shimano's component technology: Di2 electronic shifting. The 11-speed Shimano Ultegra Di2 derailleurs are operated with buttons on the aero bars and on the brake levers. When pulling out of a corner or tight turn, the rider doesn't need to return to the saddle to operate a mechanical shifter at the end of the aero bar. They can simply shift with the buttons on the brake levers while accelerating out of the saddle. The shifting quality is always perfect and lightning-fast. The derailleurs don't miss a single shift, even while under hard pedaling loads on a steep incline. The internal Shimano battery runs for 800-900 miles between charges. The drivetrain is centered around a BB30-based Vision TriMax Pro crankset with 52/38T chainrings and a 12-28T Shimano cassette. This offers a wide gearing range for top speeds on descents and flat terrain. Reigning in speed is the task of a hidden rear FSA brake caliper and a Vision caliper at the top of the fork. Alloy TTR3 24-spoke aero-profile wheels are shod with 23mm tires for a smooth ride and easy acceleration. The Prologo TGALE tri-specific saddle sits atop a UHC Advanced blade-style seatpost, while a Bayonet 3 base bar is mounted in a Felt alloy stem. S-bend alloy aero bars and gel elbow pads allow an easy fit.
