Electronic shifting has been turning bike technology on its collective ear, and is now available in Felt's B-series triathlon/TT series.
Felt's B-series of carbon fiber triathlon/TT bicycles begins with a frame that doesn't overdo component integration. Brake calipers are easily accessable, the stem is easily swapped, and removing or adjusting the seatpost is a one-wrench job. In short, living with the Felt B-series doesn't require a pit crew. When Felt added Di2 shifting to the 2016 B2, triathletes and TT specialists rejoiced. Lightning-fast operation that was easy to live with! Brilliant!
The frame and fork of the Felt B2 have been designed using CFD -or Computational Fluid Dynamic- software for a sleek aerodynamic shape before a single frame mold is built. Then multiple mock-ups are brought to the wind tunnel to assist in development. Several trips later, the B2's shape is finalized, molds are constructed, and prototypes are sent out to Felt's racers and triathletes for real-world testing. Using Felt's proprietary UHC Performance carbon fiber not only reduces total weight, but also helps enhance ride quality for long hours in the saddle. The layup of the carbon fiber around the B2's BB30 bottom bracket gets extra attention, producing immense torsional strength for flex-free power delivery. Internal cable routing pulls the brake housing out of the airstream, while a one-bolt seatpost collar makes seat height adjustments simple.
The B2's revolutionary Ultegra Di2 drivetrain allows shifting from the aero bar ends with the same effort as a mouse-click on your desktop computer. It doesn't require a powerful grip to change gears to the large chainring or larger rear cog. The battery life between charges is 800-900 miles, depeding on frequency of front shifts. The junction box under the stem has an indicator light to display power levels, so there's no mystery to when the B2's battery needs a recharge. A Vision Tri Max Pro TT crankset boasts a 52/38T chainring combination, while an 11-28T Shimano 11-speed cassette offers a wide gearing range for roller-coaster courses. 35mm-deep alloy TTR3 wheels are shod with 23mm TTR2 tires for easy acceleration and top speed. The B2's UHC carbon fiber aero seatpost is topped with a Prologo Nago Evo Tri40 saddle for a comfortable perch, while alloy S-bend aero bars can be dialed in for rider comfort.
