When the new Silque line was released, it caught the industry by surprise. But not us. We knew that Trek never stands still when developing better bikes for women, and the Silque SLX is yet another step up in Trek’s road bike line that does everything better for female riders. The Silque SLX’s frame is constructed with Trek’s own OCLV 600 carbon fiber for low weight and tremendous strength. But the similarities to the Domane start to vanish when we learned about how the Silque’s frame was constructed. Using power output data from female riders of all ages, skill levels and fitness levels, Trek found that the average woman on a given frame size was simply not as rough on her bike by simply climbing aboard it, compared to a man due to weight and force delivered at the pedals. As a result, Trek lightened up the Silque’s frame with different tube profiles and carbon construction. Incredibly, the ride-tuned Silque SLX -and other 600 Series OCLV Silque models- has shaved on average about 120 grams per frame compared to a Domane in the same frame size! The Silque still carries many of the proven and exclusive technologies that Trek has used so effectively in the Domane and Madone road bikes. A BB90 bottom bracket anchors the Silque’s crankset to eliminate frame flex when power is applied through the pedals, especially when charging uphill. The IsoSpeed decoupler found on the Domane is used to improve the Silque’s vertical compliance, making rough and choppy pavement less jarring and keeping the rider more comfortable and alert on longer rides. The Silque also uses the Domane’s tapered head tube for a sharper feel in fast descents and turns, and a full-carbon fork to reduce weight further and eliminate vibration. Useful details are found throughout the Silque SLX, including internal cable routing for a clean look, an integrated S3 chain keeper to eliminate chain drop, an aperture for a Bontrager DuoTrap speed/cadence sensor (sold separately) in the left chainstay, and two bottle mounts

Trek’s WSD geometry got a makeover for the Silque to produce a more nimble chassis while still adhering to the idea that the bike should fit a wider range of female riders and flexibilities. The tall head tube keeps female riders more comfortable, and a shorter top tube dimension accommodates shorter torsos. Looking for a smaller standover height? The Silque’s 44cm frame size has a standover height of only 27”! By raising the bottom bracket height 1cm, the Silque lets the rider pedal through corners with less risk of “pedal strike” on the pavement. By reducing the Silque’s wheelbase by about 2cm (still not as short as a Madone, though) and making the head tube angle slightly more aggressive, the bike feels eager to dive into corners without feeling nervous.

The Silque SLX comes equipped with Shimano’s latest 11-speed Ultegra 6800 components for precise operation and long life. The Ultegra dual control brake/shift levers have infinitely adjustable reach for smaller hands, and require less strength to operate compared to previous generations for shifters. The 50/34T Ultegra compact crankset is paired with an 11-28T cassette and Ultegra chain for smooth operation for many miles to come. The new multi-pivot brake calipers provide better lever feedback under hard braking, allowing the rider to better judge their stopping power. Bontrager supplies the alloy Race wheelset and 23mm R3 hard-Case tires for a smooth road feel and easy acceleration. The Race X Lite alloy stem and IsoZone shallow-drop handlebar are not only proportioned to fit well, but also reduce fatiguing vibration further. A Bontrager Affinity 2 WSD saddle provides a comfortable perch for long hours.

The 47cm example we have in stock is a former Demo bike, and keeps the same Trek Warranty on the frame and fork as a current, brand new bicycle.
