Trek's Fuel EX 9.7 29 makes molehills out of mountains.

You might need to find bigger challenges after a few days on your usual terrain. Yes, Trek's Fuel EX 9.7 29 is just that good. With Trek's proprietary OCLV Mountain carbon fiber as the building material for the main triangle, The Fuel EX 9.7's frame can take hard landings and hard pedaling equally well. Lightness counts when the trails reach skyward, and the featherweight OCLV carbon fiber backbone of the Fuel EX 9.7 doesn't hold you back. A tapered E2 head tube and PF92 bottom bracket anchor both ends of the now-straight downtube for maximum torsional strength. Why straight? A curved down tube adds weight and reduces torsional rigidity, making a long-travel full-suspension bike less than confidence-inspiring in rock gardens and twisty singletrack. Keeping the down tube protected is an ingenious integrated headset feature called Knock Block. Knock Block limits steering angle just enough to prevent the fork crown from damaging the down tube in a spill. Cool, huh? Internal cable routing keeps things smooth, and Trek's Control Freak internal cable management keeps it quiet, too.

The Fuel EX 9.7's 130mm-travel rear suspension is Trek's race-proven Active Braking Pivot (or ABP) geometry. ABP eliminates suspension "tightening" under hard braking for better all-around control. An air-adjustable Fox Performance Float EVOL rear shock boasts a RE:aktiv 3-position damper for enhanced control in root "fun houses" and washboard surfaces alike. Installed in a Full Floater shock mount, the rear shock responds better in a wider range of impacts. An alloy EVO rear shock link eliminates lateral flexing, making the rear shock work better over every obstacle. An air-adjustable Fox Rhythm 34 Float suspension fork handles front supension duties, with tuneable rebound and adjustable damper. 130mm travel up front helps soak up that scary descent and comes back for seconds.

SRAM's durable 11-speed GX rear derailleur and shifter is all you need for gear choices when your SRAM cassette is a 10-42T monster. A single-ring 32T SRAM X1 crankset keeps weight down and reduces mechanical complexity. With Boost 110/148 hubs, there's improved lateral strength for the Fuel EX 9.7's Bontrager Duster Elite tubeless-ready wheelset. With thru-axle QR's, there's more than enough strength for rough singletrack and fast descents. Bontrager XR3 29x2.4" tubeless-ready tires add massive grip for a wide range of trail conditions from dry to muddy. Keeping everything under control is the job of a set of hydraulic Shimano Deore hydraulic disc brakes.

The Fuel EX 9.7's cockpit reads like a wish-list: A KS eThirty Integra dropper post with a remote lever and internal cable routing. A 35mm (yes, 35mm!) Bontrager Line alloy handlebar and alloy Line stem. Topping it all off is an alloy-railed Bontrager Evoke 2 saddle.

With Trek's Fuel EX 9.7 29, your worst trail might turn out to be your most fun trail!
