The original Top Fuel mountain bikes of the 2000's were piloted to world championship wins, World Cup wins and national championships. Now they're back, and better than ever.
Full suspension mountain bikes have improved by leaps and bounds, and many thought that perfection had been realized. But Trek had other ideas. The Superfly platform had been successful in many ways, but the introduction of a Full Floater shock mount and adjustable suspension geometry with the Mino Link, the Top Fuel is a worthy successor. The Top Fuel 9 begins with an Alpha Platinum Aluminum frame, providing a strong chassis for effective power transfer while still keeping weight low. A press-fit PF92 bottom bracket ensures flex-free pedaling response during hard efforts. The Frame's G2 geometry is paired with a custom offset fork gives the Top Fuel 9 nimble handling at all speeds. A tapered E2 head tube adds a precise steering feel, especially while charging through rock gardens. Trek's patented Active Braking Pivot -or ABP- allows for hard braking or furious pedaling without suspension movement or contraction. A Closed Convert thru-axle adds torsional strength to the rear triangle for improved suspension operation. Evo Link is the magnesium top suspension component that prevents torsional twisting while allowing the rear shock to respond better to hard bumps and rough landings. A Full Floater rear shock mount lets the Top Fuel 9 respond better to washboard surfaces while still able to tackle rough singletrack. Refining the Top Fuel 9's geometry is easy, thanks to the adjustable Mino Links at the top of the seat stay arms. Two positions can change the bike's geometry for better handling over short, intense races or long days on the trails. Keeping cables managed is the job of the Microtruss housing guides. RockShox supplies the air-adjustable Monarch XX rear shock with 100mm of suspension travel. The suspension fork is an air-adjustable RockShox SID XX featuring a tapered steerer tube, thru-axle quick-release and 100mm of travel. Both fork and rear shock have a remote lockout switch on the handlebar for hammering down fire roads. The frame and fork dropouts are designed with the new Boost148/110 wheel spacing in mind, adding torsional wheel stiffness for improved trail handling and feel.
The Trek Top Fuel 9 keeps high performance in mind with its component list as well. The latest 11-speed SRAM X1 shifter, X1 rear derailleur and 10-42T cassette operate with incredible precision, even under hard pedaling loads. A SRAM X-Sync crankset with a 32T chainring does power delivery duty. Bontrager's alloy Mustang Pro wheelset is tubeless-ready and is shod with 2.20" XR1 tires for confident grip in fast singletrack. Shimano's Deore XT hydraulic disc brakes help reign in speed. Bontrager also brings a Montrose Elite saddle, alloy Rhythm Elite seatpost, alloy Race Lite handlebar and Race X Lite stem to the party.
