Every once in awhile, we have a customer asking for a no-nonsense bike that will put up with some long and muddy rides. Or a bike for commuters that doesn't remind them of a pro racer's steed. Or a 29'er mountain bike built with a rigid fork and tall gearing for gravel races. Giant has the answer to those questions in the form of the new Toughroad SLR 2.
Giant started with a frame that was light weight while still rugged enough for broken pavement and gravel trails. The ALUXX SLR-grade aluminum frame has been hydroformed for torsional strength, ensuring energy isn't wasted during every pedal stroke. Giant's own Composite material is used to produce the fork blades, ensuring further weight reduction and the ability to soak up fatiguing vibration. Low-rider rack mounts are available for installing front-mounted pannier racks. An ingenious Composite D-Fuse seatpost offers further comfort due to better vertical compliance over choppy pavement.
Shimano's 9-speed Acera shifters, Acera front derailleur and Alivio rear derailleur add fingertip operation across the Acera 44//32/22T crankset and 11-34T cassette. Yes, that's a 22Tx34T low gear! Gian't own alloy SX-2 wheels are shod with 29x2.0 Maxxis Maxxlite Speed tires, offering excellent grip with low rolling resistance due to a shallow-profile tread pattern. Shimano M355 hydraulic disc brakes reign in speed in dry or rainy conditions. A Connect XC handlebar, Connect stem and Contact saddle complete this adventure-ready machine.
