The Giro Selector might be the most researched time trial helmet made today. Adding a visor to improve aerodynamics was only the beginning. Producing a helmet to integrate with a wider range of rider positions took more innovation and experimentation. CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and wind tunnel testing were used to optimise helmet shape and how the helmet could work better with a wider range of athletes and their bike fits.
A rider looking to win a short TT, prologue or sprint distance tri will have an aggressive bike fit with a low head position. Keeping the long tail of a TT helmet flush against the rider's upper back for maximum aero benefit is fairly simple. But a longer event -half Ironman or longer- might require a more upright bike position for comfort during a prolonged effort. Thus, the interchangeable helmet tail of the Selector allows the rider to adapt the helmet shape to their bike position. The venting in the Selector's visor allows air to flow smoothly to the helmet's deep interior channels and out through the larger vents in the tail. Flexible ear covers make for faster transitions while the Roc Loc 5 TT interior fit system and X-static padding is adjustable and comfortable. DIfferent visor colors are available (sold separately).
