Wide tires are becoming a favorite among riders looking for better control, a more comfortable ride, and even extending their season. 29+ is also becoming a "just right" dimension for those who aren't committing to a full-blast fat bike just yet. Besides, the nimble handling of the Stache is bound to put a smile on your face!
Trek didn't just build a "wide-body" hardtail when they designed the Farley family. They committed to a clean sheet of paper, and the result is a fun and capable bike for all manner of trail conditions and surfaces. The frame itself is built with an all-business Alpha Platinum aluminum alloy that is hydroformed for optimum strength while keeping weight low. A tapered head tube and PF92 bottom bracket improves torsional strength for hard, out-of-the-saddle efforts. The E2 tapered head tube also enhances the Stache 5's nimble feel in rock gardens and other technical trail features. The raised right-side chainstay eliminates chain slap, as well as giving the rider the option of a single-speed belt drive (sold separately). The short chainstays also make the Stache 5 a fantastic bike for manuels and bunny-hops! Internal cabe routing for the rear derailleur and dropper post keep the bike looking clean as well as running smoothly in sloppy conditions. The adjustable thru-axle Stranglehold rear dropouts allow for different tire sizes (27.5+, 29+ and 29er) to be used and still keep the wheelbase nice and short. Boost 148 rear hub spacing allows for a stiffer wheel without adding pounds.
The Stache 5's Manitou Machete 32 Comp suspension fork is air-adjustable, allowing the bike to be dialed in for a wider range of riders and riding styles. A Boost 110 front hub has a thru-axle dropout, adding to the Stache 5's nimble feel in tight singletrack. SUNringle Duroc 28-spoke alloy rims are shod with massive 29x3.0" Bontrager Chupacabra tires for phenomenal grip in dirt, gravel, slush and sand. They're tubeless-ready, too! Shimano's 10-speed Deore shifter operates a Deore Shadow Plus rear deralleur for fingertip shifting in muddy conditions. A Race Face Aeffect crankset features a 30T narrow-wide chainring, while the 11-36T Shimano cassette boasts a massive gearing range for roller-coaster trails. Shimano also supplies the hydraulic disc brakes for optimal stopping power, wet or dry. Bontrager also brings an allloy seatpost, stem, 31.8 handlebar and Evoke 1.5 saddle to the party.
