This is a bike that breaks the rules. It has all the features that a roadie would want: Light weight, a nimble feel and gearing to make the best out of every climb and descent. But the 720 Disc has the chops to take on a weekend of riding gravel and bring along the campsite as well: A front rack and drybag touring package is included along with cable-operated hydraulic disc brakes for speed control in the rain and an upright fit for reducing fatigue on long rides.
Trek's Alpha Gold custom-butted aluminum is used throughout the frame for light weight and plenty of strength for riding with heavy loads. Internal cable routing reduces wear and tear on brake and shifter cables, while rack, fender and bottle mounts help define the bike's adventurous nature. Adding a carbon fiber fork improves the ride quality while adding the strength for hard braking while loaded down with racks and bags. Clearance for pudgy tires offers further versatility. Shimano's 11-speed 105 components offer precise shifting and long service life. The shifters, derailleurs, 11-32T cassette and chain are all 105 components that are all designed to work in concert. A Shimano 50/34T compact crankset adds useful gearing for long climbs, even while loaded down. TRP's cable-actuated, hydraulic disc calipers boast incredible stopping power and better lever feedback than standard cable-operated disc brakes. Bontrager's alloy tubeless-ready wheels and AW1 hard-Case Lite tires are built for a smooth road feel and easy acceleration. A Bontrager Paradigm saddle, alloy seatpost, IsoZone alloy handlebar and accessory-ready Blendr stem complete this trailblazing new machine.
Bikeradar.com gave the Trek 720 Disc four out of five stars in a long-term test.
